Apache Hadoop is the industry standard software platform for running distributed computations and data operations.Hadoop is powerful, but requires algorithms to be written in the MapReduce paradigm, which often requires a non-trivial reimplementation compared to the "normal" approach. Additionally, Hadoop by itself provides very little support for running many MapReduce computations in sequence for the same data set. Cascading is a library that abstracts away many of the most complex aspects of Hadoop and provides smart handling for Hadoop workflows. This talk will be an intro to Hadoop and MapReduce, as well as Cascading and the cascading_ext project created by LiveRamp.
